Bursa
Bursa – a large city in northwest Turkey located in the foothills of Mount Uludağ near the Sea of Marmara. Across Turkey the city is most well know for its history related with the rise of Ottoman Empire – the first capital of Ottomans from 1326. Most of the important mosques and historical sites which still stands here are from early Ottoman Empire. Many parks, trees and surrounding mountains adds to city being one of the greenest in Turkey – which explains why it is sometimes called the Green Bursa.
During your stay in Bursa you should wander and explore Old town and New town as both has interesting and historic places which are worth visiting. This ancient city has its own charm and when we arrived, we managed to get a glimpse on part of that history mixing up with nowadays big city life. We spent whole day wandering through many interesting historical and cultural sites including famous Green Mausoleum & Mosque, Irgandi Koprusu bridge, old houses colored in our national flag colors (Very nice!), Koza han, Ulu Cami and many more. Highlight of our visit was not far from Osman City wall and main gates on the edge of a mountain near Clock Tower we enjoyed the view where the whole Bursa city is like on a palm of your hand!
Helpful tips
Restaurants. Bursa is the holly place for every kebab lover on the planet! It has the first ever kebab restaurant – “iSkender”! About quality of the food there you can understand starting with only one dish on the menu “iSkender Kebab” and huge lines to get inside! A dish of bread, tomato sauce, strips of grilled meat, melted butter and yogurt! Great service and delicious food we had there marks our experience of this Godly dish!
Markets. In Bursa as in every other location on the world enjoyed by tourists you will have a chance to buy overpriced souvenirs. Here prices in shops and markets are similar and you should use more convenient one for you.
In northwest of Turkey it, especially in larger cities locals advised us against drinking tap water. They were convinced that it is not clear and has chemicals inside, its good only for boiling but not drinking.
Transportation. To get to Bursa you can use car, bus, train, plane or boat which ever you think is more convenient for you. And to get around the city is best with metro or local buses. Sometimes taxi might be a quick option as well.
Best of luck planning your holidays in Bursa!
