Vilnius is the capital city of Lithuania, here lives more 550 thousand inhabitants. It is comparatively small and often called as green city. For people who love to explore Vilnius has many things to offer. With our research we found that Vilnius unique and authentic Old town which is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List alone holds more than 50 places to visit which are worth your while. This includes museums, parks, most stunning architecture, monuments, bars and restaurants. And if we look outside the old town, we can easily locate more. Therefore, before coming you should know what you are looking for.

Visiting Vilnius in late spring, summer or autumn will let you enjoy the colors of nature in “Belmontas” park, “Pučkoriai exposure“ or right in the city center (Read more: Guide to main nature locations in Vilnius).

If you are not a nature enthusiast, try going to most frequently visited museums like “Palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania”, “Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights” or other located in the capital (Read more: Visiting Top 5 Museums in Vilnius).

Helpful tips


Restaurants. In a simple and inexpensive restaurant meal could cost you from 6 to 10 euros. While in mid-range restaurant where you get three course meal and the price increase to 30 to 50 euros. However, you can always have something you get in any country when visiting McDonalds with the price of 5 euros on average. Moreover, drinks in a local pub or a restaurant will cost you around 3 euros for a half liter of domestic drought beer.

Markets. Buying groceries in a shop and preparing meal at home might save you money, however, it depends on what you are preparing. In shop water costs between 0.5 and 1 euro, you can find a bottle of wine for approximately 7 euros, while, half liter sized bottle of domestic beer there costs around 1 to 1.2 and imported one for around 1.3 euro.

Take into consideration that tap water is great in Vilnius and whole Lithuania as we have huge reserves of underground water and you can drink it without any problems, especially in Old town, unless you get some warning from your hosts.

Transportation around the city is quite easy, you can use public transport, bike and car sharing applications or taxis. Public transport costs around 1 euro for a one-way ticket, unless you have an application called “m.Ticket” where you can buy shorter duration tickets. In the city center you can use commonly used car and scooter sharing application “CityBee shared mobility” or go with a commonly used taxi service called “Bolt”.

Traffic highly depends on where you go and from where, however, highest traffic in the city comes from around 8 to 9 am and 5 to 7 pm. “Google Maps Go” application can identify the length of your trip quite accurate, just do not forget to set time when you leave if you are checking your route in advance.
