Constanta lies on the south eastern side of Romania, also, it is on a west coast of the Black Sea and is a well-known seaport. Constanta is more than just an entry point to the Black Sea coast. It is a place with long and interesting past. Currently holding third place in size in Romania, city was also an ancient metropolis who traces back 6 centuries BC. Back in 13th century when Genoese merchants dominated the Black Sea Constanta flourished, however, after city fell under Turkish rule few centuries later it began to decline.

City has an Old Town with historic and cultural sites, picturesque architecture worth exploring. Near the seaside, you will find many Open-air restaurants, nightclubs and cabarets which offer wide variety of entertainment.

While you are visiting the area, you can find yourself relaxing on the golden sand beaches of the Black Sea. Visit surrounding old villages, wineries or ancient monuments. Most importantly, many locals advised us to visit in their opinion stunning place in whole Romania - Danube Delta. It has magnificent beaches, wild roaming horses and great number of mosquitos included.

Helpful tips

Restaurants. We somehow ended up trying some local food in a Greek restaurant – Souvlaki Bar. Food there was good and price quality ration satisfied us. We had a great meal including a kebab (Yes, a kebab in Greek restaurant, in Romania) and a Souvlaki (Restaurant special).

Markets. In Constanta as in every other location on the world enjoyed by tourists you will have a chance to buy overpriced souvenirs. Here prices in shops and markets are similar and you should use more convenient one for you.

In south east of Romania, you should not drink tap water as it is different from north and central part of the country where you have many mountains and springs. However, in case you are not sure, just double check this with locals.

Transportation. To get to Constanta you can use car, bus, train, plane or even boat which ever you think is more convenient for you. And to get around the city is best with local buses, sometimes taxi might be a quick option as well. However, to explore the Old town area is best on foot.

Best of luck planning your holidays in Constanta!
