Batumi

Batumi

Batumi is a Black Sea resort and a port city situated in the western part of the country. Sometimes also called the “Pearl of the Black Sea” for us the city seemed more like “Las Vegas want to be”, featuring many grand hotels, casinos and overcrowded with Arabs who comes here to gamble and enjoy forbidden treasures of life. Nevertheless, it is an amazing city full of newly built and renovated buildings where many European architects undertook numerous projects at the beginning of the 20th century.

Batumi, Sakartvelo | Las Vegas on the Black Sea!

Even though Batumi is most visited beach town in whole Sakartvelo, here you will find only rocky beaches. If you prefer sandy beaches you will need to travel a bit north from Batumi to town called – Kobuleti.

Helpful tips

Restaurants. Located on the same Alexander Pushkin street there stands two restaurants which are exceptional with their price and quality, recommended by most of the locals and a bit further from the main tourist routes: Shumeruli & Khinkali House Kalakuri.

Shumeruli – a pub where they have a local brewery inside. On top of that you will be able to taste their beer for a great price you also get great service and tasty khinkali.

Khinkali House Kalakuri – the name says it all. Here you will find not only delicious khinkali but most of the local cuisine dishes including marvelous khachapuri!

We found these places after a recommendation from locals and would recommend this place for everyone who are up for a pint or/and great food.

Markets. In Batumi as in every other location on the world enjoyed by tourists you will have plenty of shops who can sell you overpriced souvenirs. Prices in grocery shops are the same as through whole Sakartvelo, however, take into consideration that bigger shops usually hold better price.

Tap water in Batumi and in whole Sakartvelo is amazing. They have huge underground water reserves, mountain springs and water there is clear and tasty in most of the places. Thus, we recommend trying it and do not bother buying it from shops. Neither of our hosts advised against using water from tap for drinking.

Transportation. To get to Batumi you can use plane, train, bus, car or even boat. As it is one of the largest cities in Sakartvelo, it has great accessibility and you can use any other transport you feel like using.

In the city it is common to use public transportation such as buses or taxies which are the fastest way to get around the city. We preferred walking as it helps to get to know the city and see not only the touristic places and we recommend you do the same if you have the chance.

Best of luck planning your holidays in Batumi!
