Milestii Mici Winery
Milestii Mici Winery is situated south of Moldova’s capital – Chisinau in old. It was founded in 1969 and it is specialized in making collection wines, high quality wines, table wines and sparkling wines. Also, it is well known and appreciated over the whole world to have the largest collection of wines in the world and in 2005 it was included in Guinness World Records (Collection then consisted from about 1,5 mln. bottles).
Surrounded by a romantic aura and spectacular wine fountains at the entrance “Milestii Mici” is probably the most visited place in whole Moldova. The Winery is all underground in old Soviet bunker with total length of 200 km of large tunnels, you can only enter with car and you must have an extra seat for a guide which is mandatory. Constant temperature of 12 – 14 degrees and relative humidity of 85-95% of this “wine kingdom” ideally contributes both to storage of Moldavian strategic reserve and to discovery of natural qualities of elite wines. Thus, when you come – be sure to dress properly as it gets rather cold after some time.
Due to having many wineries such as Milestii Mici Republic of Moldova has obtained the title of “country with open doors in the paradise of wine”. Most of the Moldovians are working in wine production. Everyone is welcome here!
Helpful tips
Restaurants. It has a restaurant at the entrance across the street from the wine fountains, however, we did not eat there, thus, we cannot recommend if the food there is worth your attention.
Markets. In Milestii Mici Winery as in every other location on the world enjoyed by tourists you will have a chance to buy overpriced souvenirs. However, we are sure that if you are a wine lover, you will find museum/shop where you can get Milestii Mici production much more interesting!
Transportation. To get to Milestii Mici Winery you can use bus, taxi or your personal/rented car. One of the best ways is to go there with personal/rented car if you have a chance or with a taxi (you can even get special taxies). As to get into the famous tunnels of the winery, you need a car with one extra seat for the guide.
